THE SECRET SCIENCE OF NUMEROLOGY

a review by John Gilbert

The Secret Science of Numerology - The Hidden Meaning of Numbers and Letters by Shirley Blackwell Lawrence (ISBN 1-56414-529-8) published by New Page Books is a new and refreshing look at this very old art and science. Dr. Blackwell Lawrence is not new to this science. She previously wrote Behind Numerology and the English Cabalah. She also co-authored the Science of Mind Practitioner's Course with Dr. Jack Ensign Eddington.

The Secret Science of Numerology is unlike any other numerology book I've ever read - and I've read at least a dozen good books on the subject. Shirley takes us back to the roots of our numbers and letters using the Cabalah (Kabalah or Qabalah) as her guide. She applies logic, wisdom and discrimination to meanings of the Hebrew letters and their English equivalents.

The result is a different kind of numerology that speaks top us on three levels: this mundane world, our own\Higher Self and the Divine Will. Don't take my word for it. Work out the numbers as she presents them for yourself. You'll be amazed. I was.

According to her system I'm a Sixteen = Seven and I quote: This is a karmic number. It corresponds to the 16th Tarot: the Lightning Struck Tower, equating with sudden experiences, losses and accidents. The bearer of this number can overcome anything through silence and meditation, qualities of the seven. This number shows a talent for speaking, singing, writing...

People who know me intimately know this is true. In this lifetime I've experienced seven sudden experiences and losses that I can remember and all of them have deep karmic roots from past lives. I have overcome a great deal through silence and meditation. I have a talent for speaking, singing and writing. I could really relate to 16=7 but I didn't completely relate to any other number combination in the book.

One of the innovations introduced by the author is called The Inner Guidance Number. This is arrived at in a different way and it has a different meaning than the regular life numbers. My Inner Guidance Number is a 7 = 4 =11 =2.

Seven says: You analyze the facts and work out your own solutions... Answers often come through meditation, books and within yourself... The downside of this number is being suspicious and unreasonable. Four says: ...You take your problems seriously, face them squarely, and work them out in an organized way. You handle them with honesty and expect honesty in return. The downside to this number is being too serious, argumentative and stubborn.

Nobody has done a better job identifying me and the major problems I've had to overcome with being suspicious and unreasonable, too serious argumentative as a young man. I still tend to be stubborn. I do analyze things and work them out myself. I do get answers to most everything through meditation, from within myself. I do tend to work things out in an orderly way.

Two is my meditation number, my Inner Guidance Number. Two, in this instance, says: Meditate first on Wisdom... By keeping your goal in view you will see, with your inner eye, the result of any conscious action... This is so true for me. It's a gift to help me resolve a lot of karma in this lifetime and it's helped me view a lot of things in my life as being necessary even if they were going to be unpleasant at the time. I could see the end result in advance and had the choice to retreat or let it happen. I did retreat in my early years in order to avoid unpleasantness. But unpleasantness sought me out anyway. By letting things happen, the end result has always been much softer because I could see what was coming and I could detach from the situation (most of the time) as the event unfolded.

If for no other reason, you'll want this book in your library just to determine the Inner Guidance Number for yourself and your clients.
